The first person you will meet is our lovely front office staff . If you're coming this Lunar New Year you might be our lucky guests to get a mandarin orange, But you will have to hurry. If you want to know where the best local foods are to eat near us, which cafes to check out, our happy concierges know the ins and outs of the neighborhood. Need any amenities and help with your luggage you know they are ready to help anytime.

Natural light comes in abundantly around and in the center of the hotel because of the empty center section in our architecture design. Great lighting improves your mood, sunlight and UV kills germs and more Vitamin D means you'll be happier and live healthier. Don't worry we have light diffusing screens on the windows which reflect the strong harmful rays. You wont get a suntan but just all the benefits of nice lighting and sunlight. Also makes for good looking selfies in the corridor.

We like to keep things fresh and clean and that goes the same with the air. Well as clean as we can get it. Air purifiers are on every floor of the hotel. Purifiers help to remove pesticides, dust, dust mites and well just general nasty things that may not be seen to the naked eye. They are known to reduce asthma triggers , reduce risk of airborne virus exposure and with less harmful particles you will be sleeping better.

The center of the hotel is an open airwell that looks down into the garden. You can see more of our garden view if you scroll down below.

Singapores weather can get hot in the summer . Stay hydrated with water coolers on every floor. If you like a hot tea or a warm beverage there is a Hot and cold options for you to mix to your ideal temperature. Bring a flask or a water bottle and refill at any floor.

One of our favorite features at the entrance is a garden wall. Singapore is a city in a garden and we love to bring greenery into our design. Our own version of a mini lush tropical garden with vines creeping up the wall, fig trees and small shrubs. You can see the garden even from the upper floors as you look below. The sunbirds com in occasionally and you might be able to catch them playing amongst the leaves when you walk past.

A sneak peek into the twin room. Just look at that scenic view. The twin room is one of our most popular rooms , especially for friends and couples on a staycation.

Chinese New Year falls on a different date each year, as it follows the lunar calendar.

The Dragon, a symbol of strength, fortune, and authority, is revered for its daring spirit and auspicious power. In Singapore, where modernity meets tradition, the Year of the Dragon will be a time to harness the dragon's fearless energy to pursue success, forge new paths, and make waves in their respective fields.

           2. Cleaning and Decluttering

A clean slate for the new year is essential in Chinese culture. Families engage in thorough cleaning, sweeping away bad luck, and making their homes welcoming to good fortune. But remember this, never clean during the first day of Chinese New Year, as this would be the same as to clear out your good fortune. The 28th day is meant to wash the dirt away’ (年廿八, 洗邋遢)

           3. Decorating Your Home

Decorations play a significant role in Chinese New Year celebrations. Red lanterns, intricate paper cuttings, couplets with auspicious phrases, and images of the Chinese zodiac animal of the year are commonly used. Singapore adds a modern twist with eco-friendly and digital decorations, blending tradition with technology in a way that resonates with the eco-conscious millennial.

           4. Preparing Traditional Dishes and Reunion Dinner

The reunion dinner on the eve of Chinese New Year is a heartwarming tradition. It brings family members together to share a lavish meal and strengthen their bonds and symbolizing unity.Delicious food is a central part of the festivities.

           5. Giving Red Envelopes

Red packets, or 'hongbao', filled with money are gifted during CNY, signifying the transfer of luck from the giver to the receiver. For the uninitiated millennial, it's a gesture steeped in love and blessings. If you're married, get your red packets ready; if not, enjoy the boon of receiving!

There’s less people so you can browse comfortably for all your fashion, shoes, watches, cosmetics, electronics, cameras, housewares, toys, luggage and even groceries. Whatever you can think of, you can most probably find it within the six floors here and at slightly more affordable prices than at other places.

A really great way to know a country is through its food and drinks scene. In Singapore, there are many options ranging from everyday common fare to elaborate fine dining experiences. Here are some spots in the vicinity of Kallang that you shouldn’t miss.

This food centre was built in 1972 to resettle street hawkers found around Kallang Estate, which was created after the closure of Kallang Airport. From the start, it became a haunt for both locals and travellers in search of the best local food at wallet-friendly prices. It was upgraded in 2006-2007 but the wide selection of local fare remains. From roasted meats to rojak, prawn mee, chicken rice, char kway teow, chee cheong fun, herbal soup, satay, oyster omelette and more, you can find them among the more than 150 stalls here. A short 10-minute walk away at Jalan Besar Road is this food centre built in 1975. Although not as famous or big as other food centres, it has several local bites that were popular in the 1980s but aren’t commonly available now. These include exotic soups such as turtle and crocodile, shark jelly, pig trotter jelly and Fuzhou style oyster cake. Other eats that are highly recommended include fried oyster, kaya toast with local coffee or tea, chicken curry noodles and beef kway teow.

This was once the ethnic enclave of Muslim community in Singapore, including Arab and Bugis traders, and the Sultan Mosque has been a national monument since 8 March 1975. Although the neighbourhood has transformed into a hip destination with restaurants and bars, the quintessential dining experience here is nasi padang. This is a dish consisting of steamed rice with your choice of pre-cooked dishes. It is named after the city of Padang in West Sumatra, Indonesia, where it originated from.

The Indian community of Singapore continues to frequent the ethnic district. It’s a colourful and vibrant neighbourhood with many dining options in its many streets. Two of the most well-known eateries here are Komala Vilas and Ananda Bhavan. The latter is a no-frills vegetarian Indian restaurant established in Singapore in 1924 and serves North Indian, South Indian, and Indian Chinese cuisines. The former opened in 1947 and continues to dish up the original South and Indian vegetarian recipes of the founder.

The Kallang area is filled with many exciting shopping, dining, nature and heritage options. This has always been a vibrant location, although the type of attractions was vastly different 30 to 40 years ago. Some of these places still exist and you can visit, while others have given way to modern developments. Here’s a look at Kallang of yesteryears and see if you can identify some of these spots when you’re out there.

The original building operated from 1862 to 23 March 1998 at a site bounded by Kallang Road, Crawford Street, Kampong Bugis and Rochor River. The gasworks was the first site in Singapore dedicated to the manufacturing of gas from coal. At the time, it was also the largest gas works in Southeast Asia. Originally built to supply piped gas for street lighting on the island, it began supplying piped gas in the 1960s and 1970s to housing developments as fuel for cooking and water heating.

Residents of the area could see the flames from the burning of waste gas from the Gasworks’ discharge chimney stack throughout the day. It was this that gave Kallang the nickname of Fire City, or Huay Sia in Hokkien.

Originally called Jalan Besar Stadium, this Singapore landmark was officially opened on Boxing Day in 1929. Since then, it has hosted many football events, including Malaysia Cup tournaments from 1967 to 1973, and was the training ground for Singapore’s most famous professional footballer, Fandi Ahmad. The Football Association of Singapore has its headquarters at the stadium and it’s currently the home ground of Young Lions, a Singapore Premier League club. The stadium is also used by the Singapore national football team as an alternative home ground to the National Stadium.

During the Japanese Occupation, the stadium was used as a mass screening site during the events of the Sook Ching massacre. It remained open during the war and was also used as a language centre where locals were taught the Japanese language. After the war, the stadium has hosted major events including the National Day Parade in 1984.

#3 Conservation shophouses – Petain Road, 161 Lavender Street

It’s hard to miss the row of shophouses on Petain Road – their striking colours and patterns make them stand out from their surroundings. The 18 even-numbered Double-storey terrace houses were designed in the Chinese Baroque-style with neo-classical features and the facade is decorated in ornate floral ceramic tiles and plaster reliefs of exotic birds.

Built in the early 1930s, the interesting mix of European and Peranakan styles of these shophouses have been well preserved. This design is not found elsewhere in the world, except Malaysia and Singapore.

Petain Road has its own controversial history. It was named in 1928 after Henri Philippe Benoni Omer Joseph Pétain (1856-1951), the Marshal of France who commanded the French Army that won the Battle of Verdun during the First World War. After the war, Pétain became the Prime Minister of France but allowed the country to be relegated into a puppy state. For this, he was convicted of treason and given life imprisonment.

The district was also known as a red light district in the 1930s, where secret societies, smuggling, extortion and brothels all came together in and around the shophouses of Petain Road.

The shophouses were earmarked for conservation in 1981.

A short walk from Petain Road is 161 Lavender Road, another conservation site of 11 four-storey shophouses. Tiled and plastered in the Art Deco style, it won a URA Architectural Heritage Award in 1995.

This was the original premises of the Lee Rubber Company, owned by rubber tycoon Lee Kong Chian. He was a supporter of Dr Sun Yat Sen’s Nationalist cause, which explains the plaster reliefs of soldiers carrying the Nationalist flag of the Republic of China on one pediment’s corner facade.

This building stands within the site that was Singapore’s first purpose-built civil airport. It was opened on 12 June 1937 and ceased operations following the opening of Paya Lebar Airport in 1955. The airport building continued to be used by various groups – Singapore Youth Sports Council, People’s Association (PA), Public Works Department (PWD), Central Manpower Base (CMPB) – until it was gazetted on 5 December 2008 for conservation. In 2011, it was one of the main venues for the Singapore Biennale.

The design of the building displays modern architectural and international style with its exposed concrete, transparent glazed walls and streamlined curves. The design has been accredited to the Chief of Architect of the former Public Works Department, Frank Dorrinton Ward.

There are plans to transform the entire Kallang Airport area into a commercial hub in the future.

The only indication today of Gay World Park’s existence is Gay World Hotel – located in a row of converted double-storey shophouses, it stands across the road from where the amusement park was once located.

Standing between Mountbatten and Geylang Roads, Gay World Park began as Happy World on 6 May 1937. Built by George Lee Geok Eng, the brother of Lee Kong Chian, it was renamed in 1966 when Eng Wah Organisation took over the lease.

Great World was one of three amusement parks that provided Singaporeans with entertainment in the form of cabaret performances, Chinese and Malay operas, movies, sporting matches, circus, a mini golf course, a covered stadium (purportedly the first in Malaya), a restaurant with a rooftop garden and 200 games, food and retail stalls.

During the Japanese Occupation of Singapore, the Japanese converted it into a technical school where 14 to 19 year olds could receive a year’s training in courses including aviation, engineering and mechanics. After the war, business at Happy World boomed but its popularity started to wane in the 1950’s with the introduction of radio and later, television. By the 1980’s, amusement parks were considered outdated as people flocked instead to shopping malls, game arcades and newly built cineplexes.

Throughout the years, fires would ravage Gay World. Eng Wah Organisation terminated the lease in 2000 as the site had been slated for residential development. The park was finally demolished in 2001, making it the last of the three Worlds in Singapore to go.

Set aside a few hours if you want to hit all the wall murals in Kampong Glam – there’s one in almost every street including Haji Lane, Bali Lane, Sultan Gate, Aliwal Street, Baghdad Street, Muscat Street, Jalan Klapa and Jalan Kledek. One of the most photographed murals is a depiction of Aztecs on the exterior of Piedra Negra cafe. This is the work of Didier Haba Mathieu, a Colombian-born graffiti writer and street artist who also painted much of the art along Haji Lane. Self-taught local artist Yip Yew Chong has contributed seven wall murals to Kampong Glam. These include one on 92 Arab Street, 29 Sultan Gate, 58 Arab Street, 78 Arab Street as well as the corner of 123A Arab Street and North Bridge Road.

Pay a visit to one of the most colorful and the oldest temples in Singapore. The Sri Veeramakaliamman temple was first constructed in 1855 and had undergone extensive renovation in 2014. The temple was built as a shrine initially and dedicated to the goddess Kali and serves as an important place of worship and rituals for Hindus living in Singapore.

Including a 15m high statue of a seated Buddha covered in gold leaf at the Sakya Muni Buddha Gaya Temple as well as other rare relics at Thekchen Choling Singapore. Don’t miss one of Singapore’s most famous Buddhist temples, the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple. Located a 25-minute bus ride away in Chinatown, the temple is named after what’s regarded as the left canine tooth of Buddha that’s displayed in the temple. Other Buddhist artefacts include Buddha bone and tongue relics. The temple also has a dining hall that serves delicious vegetarian food where payment is by donation of any amount.

The Bugis-Bras Basah walk covers architecture projects steeped in heritage on Victoria Street, Queen Street, Middle Road and Waterloo Street such as the National Design Centre (previously a convent school), Bugis Junction, and School of the Arts, among others. The Arab Street-Kampong Glam tour goes back to the street art the area is known for and how this contributes to the architecture of buildings here. Skip the usual spots in Little India and instead discover its non-Indian heritage through a historic Chinese bungalow-style residence, heritage conservation design of a previous school, post-war church as well as a mosque that’s a gazetted national monument.

The museum traces the development of Chinese opera in Singapore since the first Southern Chinese arrived on the island and spans over a hundred years. You’ll get an in-depth look at the various Chinese operas of Cantonese, Teochew, Hokkien, Qiong and Yue.

This is an island-wide network of more than 3,000km of linear green corridors across Singapore linking major parks and nature reserves. It provides a picturesque journey along rivers and canals as you stroll, jog, rollerblade or cycle. The closest Park Connector Network is the Kallang Park Connector. At 7.87km, it links Kallang Riverside Park to Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park. A point of interest is Kolam Ayer ABC Waterfront, which features floating look-out decks and interactive water features along a 200m stretch of the Kallang River.

Designed as a park consisting of three gardens – Bay South Garden, Bay East Garden and Bay Central Garden – the largest of the three is Bay South Garden with a Flower Dome that’s the largest glass greenhouse in the world. However, it is the Supertree Grove that draws visitors – the 18 tree-like structures stretch up to between 25-metres and 50-metres and contain vertical gardens that are home to a huge variety of plants including exotic ferns, orchids and vines. A walk along the elevated OCBC Skyway provides a panoramic aerial view of the Gardens and is a great spot for photos. The Supertree Grove comes alive every night at 7.45pm and 8.45pm with a light and music show. Over at the Bay East Garden, which is lesser known to tourists, you’ll see more joggers, cyclists and rollerbladers as there’s lesser foot traffic here. As you traverse down the length of the park, you’re offered an expansive view of the Marina Bay skyline. There are Free guided tours to learn about eco diversity, nature and sustainability as well

Getting to the park alone is an uphill hike from Fort Canning Road. Originally known as Bukit Larangan, or Forbidden Hill in Malay, the area was named Central Park in 1972 before it was converted into a historical park on 1 November 1981 and renamed Fort Canning Park. It bears witness to many of Singapore’s historical milestones, including the decision to surrender Singapore to the Japanese on 15 February 1942, which was made in the Underground Far East Command Centre, commonly known as Battle Box. Today, the park features nine historical gardens and is a frequent spot for those who enjoy exercising in the early morning or early evening.

The Singapore Botanical Gardens has been designated as a UNESCO heritage site in 2015. The garden's charm extends to the Jacob Ballas Children's Garden, where kids and parents can play and learn more about botany and seed germination.
